Dr. Ray Callas

Ray Callas, M.D., is a lifelong Texan who has spent most of his life living on the coast, serving his communities and finding ways to fight for the values that he was raised with. From his military service in Operation Desert Storm to his advocacy efforts in Austin, Dr. Callas has always run toward challenges to help his fellow Texans and Americans. It’s a call to service he continues to answer to this day.

Dr. Callas grew up in Galveston, a hometown he would return to several times before settling in Beaumont. After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served honorably during Operation Desert Storm. His service earned him two distinctions: a Navy Achievement Medal and a National Defense Medal. Upon completing his military service, Ray attended Texas A&M University, graduating with a pre-med degree in 1995. He returned to his hometown to continue his medical education at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. Dr. Callas eventually landed in Beaumont in 2004, completing his education and becoming a board-certified anesthesiologist in 2006.

His honorable service in the military carried forward into his career, earning him several awards, including the Walter T. Bernard Award for Excellence in Anesthesiology (2000), Most Outstanding Resident of UTMB, Galveston (2004), Medal of Valor from the American Medical Association (2018), and the 2021 Doctor Chuck Bauer Award for Top Physician from the Texas Department of Emergency Management. In 2017, he became a partner and owner at Kare Infusion Center and continues to serve patients in regional hospitals and care centers.

Over the past two decades, Dr. Callas has served both professional organizations and local community efforts to shape policy in Austin. He has taken on a variety of roles and committees at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Texas Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Anesthesiologists, and both the Texas and American Medical Associations. He served as the president of the Texas Medical Association during the 2025 Texas legislative session and previously served as a board trustee. Governor Greg Abbott appointed Dr. Callas to serve as a Commissioner for the Texas Commission on Licensing and Regulation—the state’s central agency for occupational certification and regulatory oversight—and the Jefferson & Orange County Pilot Commission, serving as chairman from 2014-2016.

Locally, Dr. Callas is a longtime advocate for the Jefferson County Medical Society, a graduate of the Leadership Beaumont program and is Chamber Advisory Director for the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce. He is also a proud member of the Jefferson County Republican Party, a delegate to the Republican Party of Texas state convention and a former Republican National Committee member.

Most important to him are his faith and his family. Dr. Callas lives in Beaumont with his wife, Lisa, and their daughters Emerie, MacKenna, and Raygan.
